About John

John was born on November 8, 1982 and grew up in Two Rivers, Wisconsin. He got his undergrad degree at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University in Arizona in Electrical Engineering before moving to Boulder in 2005. He is now working on his PhD in electromagnetics at the University of Colorado and is planning to graduate in 2010. John loves cooking, enjoying fine wines, skiing, watching movies, and spending time with good friends.

How We Met

Both of our churches (Kate's in Fort Collins and John's in Boulder) happened to attend the same apologetics conference in Laramie, Wyoming in April of 2006. After a weekend full of theology, talking over late-night card games and a couple slices of pie at the local Village Inn, we went home our separate ways. John, however, being the smart guy he is, took note of a concert that Kate mentioned she was going to the next weekend and brought a few friends up from Boulder with him to see it too. The concert itself was actually pretty terrible, but it worked perfectly as an excuse for us to see each other again! The next day Kate went to Boulder and for our first "official" date we did some hiking and picnicking up around Flagstaff Mountain.

About Kate

Kate was born on October 17, 1986 and has called Fort Collins, Colorado home for the last ten years. She began her college career at Colorado State and Transferred to CU Boulder in 2006. She is planning to graduate in 2009 with a degree in psychology. She also enjoys brains, crazy people, eating John's cooking, watching movies, and sushi.

Our Engagement
On March 10, 2007, we had planned to spend the day in Colorado Springs visiting some friends. When they called and cancelled that morning, pleading "sickness," the two of us suddenly found ourselves with an entire day with no plans (as far as Kate knew). John suggested driving up into the mountains and doing a little bit of hiking, so we set off. We stopped at a few places, took some pictures, and finally made our way to the spot we had picnicked at on our first date — a beautiful amphitheatre overlooking all of Boulder valley. John went to set the camera up for another shot, and instead of coming back and standing next to Kate, he went down on one knee and got a picture of himself proposing! After the shock had worn off a little (and Kate had said yes, of course!) we made our way back down the mountain and stopped in the Boulder Café for lunch, where Kate got another surprise — all of our friends and family waiting there to celebrate with us — even the "sick" ones!
