how we met
we met the summer of 2002. i (lindsey) had just graduated from seattle
pacific university and was looking feverishly
for a job, an internship, the next thing
after college.
i had applied for a sports information internship in allentown, pennsylvania. because this was a completely foreign place to me, i searched the internet for any information i could find. i ended up in a locals chat room trying to find out about the area, things to do, secrets that only locals would know. we ended up talking all night that first night, about our many things in common; dave matthews band, baseball, roller coasters. at this point i didn’t even know if i was moving to allentown, but i knew i had an instant friend if i did.
a few weeks later i went to allentown for an interview. my aunt lyne drove me there from maryland for the visit. i interviewed and was offered the position. i had also just returned from another interview in north carolina, which i was also offered the position. now i had a decision to make. i can’t say that i made this decision without factoring in my new found friendship, but needless to say i accepted the position at muhlenberg college in allentown, pennsylvania.
i got to meet bobby in person when i arrived in allentown during august 2002. our first date? dinner at friendly’s (local ice cream place) and a round of miniature golf. there was an instant bond between us that we’ve refused to break, despite many ups and downs.
the rest is history. bobby and i have been dating ever since, save a rough patch here and there. i think those made us stronger, made us better friends and made our relationship what it is today.
the proposal
in november 2005, i (lindsey) was hospitalized with a severe asthma
attack. it was then i saw who bobby was. a caring
(held my hand when they had to poke me
with needles), loving (came to the hospital
to hold my hand every night for 10 days
straight), willing to do anything for
me (snuck taco bell in for me so i didn’t have to eat
hospital food) kind of guy and someone
i wanted to spend the rest of my life
with.
we had come so far together, through
many challenges and here we were still
standing next to each other. we celebrated
christmas at aunt lyne and uncle adam’s
house in wisconsin that december. as
the family was gathered around the christmas
tree, bobby handed me a large box. i
unwrapped the paper, to find another
box, and another, until i came to a small
ring-sized box. in front of my family,
bobby asked me to marry him. our wedding
day will be 5 years, almost to the day,
that we met. it’s been
a long and sometimes winding road, but
a great adventure along the way. |
